The Ghana Statistical Service has entreated persons who are yet to be counted in the ongoing Population and Housing Census to call the service and request for the number of the officer assigned to their area.
With two days left for Ghana's latest enumeration exercise to come to an end, a lot more ground remains to be covered.
Current figures, per the Ghana Statistical Service, reveal that, generally, some 56.6% of the expected households across the 16 regions of Ghana have been enumerated. The completion rate varies between 38.9% for the Greater Accra region and 80% in the North East region.
Touching on the likelihood of an extension in order to count the entirety of the Ghanaian population on the back of the massive ground yet to be covered before July 11, the day when the census ends, Mr. Francis Nyarkoh-Larbi, the Head of Publicity, Education, and Advocacy at the Ghana Statistical Service indicated that "a census does not have strict guidelines," and that, as time goes on, the data will be collected to fulfill the purpose as required.
Mr. Nyarkoh-Larbi who was speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews said those who are yet to be counted because they usually leave their homes early and get back late at night can still participate in the census.
Expatiating on the matter, Mr. Nyarkoh-Larbi indicated that such people could call the Ghana Statistical Service's hotline, which is 0800426426, and request the details (call-back card) of the supervisor or enumerator assigned to their area.
"Once details are exchanged, the person who has not been counted can pass on the relevant data to the enumerator or plan with him or her concerning other ways of doing so. The interview could also be conducted entirely via phone," he added.
Mr. Nyarkoh-Larbi finally urged Ghanaians to give accurate information in order not to misinform the officers as the data will result in policy statements for all Ghanaians in the future.
