Three men are in Police custody for allegedly stealing substation cables belonging to AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mines.
Kwadwo Amoako, a 55-year-old farmer aka magic man; Kojo Blay, a 51-year-old driver and Musah Ibrahim, an unemployed man, have been remanded for one week.
According to the suspects, Abubakar Adams, who claim to own the cables, sent them to collect and deliver the items to him.

Briefing Adom News correspondent, Isaac K. Normanyo, the Police District Commander, DSP Martin Asenso said the theft interrupted power supply to the company.
According to him, on Sunday, July 25, 2021, the company reported that someone had “stolen from their electrical substation, which is one of their biggest source of electricity supply to the company.
“He said thieves had entered at dawn and cut off very long cable, causing their system to go off. So, we immediately informed the Police of the various barriers because definitely, we knew they will attempt escaping with them.”

DSP Asenso said they had a tip-off on July 27 that some people are packing out some cables, “so we followed up and saw a van loaded with the cables.
"But the sad thing is that they had burnt the cables in a forest, making it easy for them to bend and fold the copper. Even if you left one, you can testify it is very heavy.”
He said the Police matched the suspects to arrest Abubakar Adams and sent them to court the next day, but “honestly, he was a very elderly man (67 years), and when we assess the facts, we suspect there are other people behind, and we want to fish them.
“So we pleaded with the court to release them to us for an in-depth investigation to fish the source, but when the court agreed, it noted keeping Mr Adams in Police custody may lead to something else.”

Abubakar Adams was, therefore, granted bail but asked to report to the Police daily while three-assist the Police in their investigation.
The Police Commander noted that the act greatly affected the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mines.
Meanwhile, two of the suspects, Kwadwo Amoako and Kojo Blay, speaking to Adom News, denied that the cables were stolen items.
According to them, the third offender indicated that the cables were his and helped them pack into the vehicle with a promise to follow them shortly, only for them to be arrested by the Police.
