Authorities of the 37 Military Hospital have invited drivers who were alleged to have been subjected to forced tasks with corpses at the hospital’s morgue by some military personnel to report to the hospital for treatment or visit any hospital for treatment.
The Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Ernest Tham, who revealed this to Asempa FM said the decision forms part steps being taken to investigate the matter.
He said 13 commercial drivers of the GPRTU have so far testified at the sitting of the committee of enquiry on how they were maltreated.
Mr. Tham added that on Wednesday morning, the committee invited him to its sitting to enquire if any of the drivers had visited any hospital but according to him, they were waiting for the regional office of the GPRTU to furnish the national office with information concerning their treatment.
Mr. Tham therefore advised drivers not to see the Military as their enemies but rather see them as their friends.
Some drivers of the GPRTU in Accra were allegedly ordered by some military personnel to kiss, carry and fondle corpses at the morgue of the 37-Military Hospital a couple of weeks ago for flouting traffic regulations.
As a result, a committee was set up by the Military High Command, to investigate the allegations.
Many, including President Kufuor, have condemned the purported maltreatment, and asked that those involved in subjecting the drivers to the inhumane exercise be sanctioned.
