The Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) has received a special recognition for its role in harnessing good corporate governance practices in the country.
The company was honoured for its immense contribution in promoting the culture of good corporate governance in the media industry in Ghana.
MGL was one of five top corporate entities honoured at the 4th Institute of Directors Ghana Corporate Governance Excellence Awards held in Accra.
Speaking to JoyBusiness at the ceremony, Chief Human Resources Officer of the Multimedia Group, Samuel Nana Mbroh Elegba, attributed the success chalked to the media organisation's documentaries as one of the major factors.
“One of the things that the Multimedia Group is renowned for is the quality of our documentaries and we've had quite a number of them which have exposed the rot in society not only within government circles - it cuts across every sphere and sector of society." said Nana Elegba.
He added that the Multimedia Group will leverage the award to continue to remain independent, fearless and credible.
“What this award does is to tell us that we are on track and moving in the right direction. So we will continue to remain independent in our operations, in whatever we do we will continue to remain fearless exposing the rot in society, we will continue to remain credible to promote good governance." he added.
The Multimedia Group is a media giant, made up of six radio stations- Joy FM, Adom FM, Hitz FM, Luv FM, Nhyira FM, Asempa FM as well Television and online networks - Multi TV and Myjoyonline.com respectively. It has over the years built a reputation of excellence.
Other award winners
The special recognition award was jointly won by the Bank of Ghana, Securities and Exchange Commission, State Interests and Governance Authority and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
Meanwhile, some individuals who also received special recognition at the event include the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison together with his two deputies as well as the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Janet Fofie.
While Nhyiraba Yaw Sompa Okyere emerged as the Up and Coming Director of the Year, Dr. John Kofi Mensah was adjudged Innovative Director of the year.
The competitive awards category saw Metropolitan Life Insurance Ghana become the Best Life Insurer for good corporate governance, B5 Plus Limited as best under Fabricated Metal Industry category and Zenith Bank as best under the Universal Bank Category.
The 4th IoD-Gh Corporate Governance Excellence Awards 2021 was themed, "Good Corporate Governance and Ethical Leadership: An Essential Requirement for Organisational Turnaround."
The overarching aim of the awards and conference is to stimulate and sustain the culture of good corporate governance, champion director professionalism and development through education for the benefit of organisations and stakeholders and for the prosperity of Ghana.
