Tragedy struck in the Abuom Redtop area near West Hills Mall yesterday when a 7-year-old boy reportedly drowned in a water-filled manhole pit on Sunday, October 26, according to a statement by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The GNFS confirmed that rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene following reports of the incident.
Despite efforts to save the child, he was pronounced dead at the site. The circumstances surrounding how the boy fell into the manhole remain unclear.
Residents in the area expressed shock and sadness, with many urging local authorities to improve safety standards to protect children and the public.
