Over ninety pregnant women are reported to have tested positive for HIV in 28 health facilities in the Brong Ahafo region, between the months of January and June this year. This came to light following the screening of 3,928 women during ante-natal periods. The current figure is an increase from last year’s Seventy Four pregnant women who underwent the screening exercise. The Regional Disease Control Officer, Samuel Addo, told Joy News though the number is alarming, it creates the opportunity for the unborn babies to be given the needed care in order to ensure they do not contract the virus.Mr. Addo explained that the surge in the HIV cases could also mean that more women are now attending ante-natal care and have subjected themselves to HIV test.According to him, the affected women will undergo the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV to save their unborn babies.
