Yaw Annan Amponmah, unemployed who snatched a mobile phone and GHc 200 from a man at Dansoman, was on Monday sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
Amponmah and his accomplice, now at large who were on a motor bike were said to have pulled out knives on the complainant to surrender all his belongings.
Charged with robbery Amponmah pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery last Friday and the court deferred his sentence to today.
When Mr Francis Obiri pronounced the judgment Amponmah broke down in tears.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police P. A. Morkeh told the court that the complainant Joe Debrah lived at Dansoman in Accra.
DSP Morkeh said the convict and his accomplice, now at large lived at Sukura and Town Council Line respectively.
On February 16 the complainant went to Dansoman to buy food and after eating he came by the road to pick a taxi home.
Suddenly, prosecution said, Amponmah and his accomplice who were on motor bike drove and parked behind the complainant.
To the complainant’s amazement, the convict and his accomplice pulled out knives and ordered him (the complainant) to surrender all that he had on him.
The convict and his accomplice, DSP Morkeh, said subjected the complainant to a search and made away with his DSTV mobile phone and cash in the sum of GH 200 cedis.
The two persons jumped onto the motor bike and sped off on realising a car was approaching the scene.
The complainant reported the matter to the Police at Dansoman and Amponmah was later arrested.
