Two tipper truck drivers have been fined GH¢250 each by a Kumasi Circuit Court for loading their trucks above the stipulated weight of 10 tonnes.
They were also charged for driving without licenses. In default, Nuuhu Gyarko and Ayeh Daniel will go to prison for six months with hard labour.
They pleaded guilty to the charges and were convicted on their own pleas.
Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Martin Zebtor told the court, presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh, that officials of Ghana Highway Authority and the Police jointly arrested the two drivers at the Kumasi-Sunyani Highway axle-load checkpoint carrying timber logs weighing 14.7 tonnes and 12.5 tonnes, respectively, instead of the stipulated 10 tonnes.
