The Police in the Eastern Region have detained a 19-year-old JHS student for allegedly kidnapping a 20-year-old colleague at Akyem Manso.
The 20-year-old victim, Georgina Ama Amenyo, was said to have sneaked out of her parents’ Anamase home near Achiase on January 12 but did not return.
The police announced the detention on Sunday, the same day residents of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region and its environs held a grand vigil for three missing young ladies who were reported kidnapped last year and who have still not been found.

In the latest case, a statement signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, said the victim's mother, Esther Brady, contacted the victim’s boyfriend, Joseph Prah, at Akim Manso who admitted to accommodating Georgina but only for a day – he claimed she left his house the day after.
According to the police, the mother, unconvinced by the claims of Joseph, lodged a complaint with them leading to the arrest on January 28, 2019. The young lady has still not been found, the police say.
The suspect, when he was arrested denied knowledge of Georgina’s whereabouts, insisting he saw her off a day after she stayed with him.
The police statement said a brassier; cover cloth and a pair of shoes belonging to Georgina were retrieved from the suspect's room during a search.
The suspect has since been remanded into police custody by Akim Swedru circuit court pending further investigations.
