Supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have flocked to the Police Headquarters as the party’s National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, heads there Monday.
This follows the decision by the police to obtain a court warrant for the arrest of the NDC Chairman.
The police had resorted to bringing in the NDC big wig with the warrant following his refusal to honour their invitation last week.
Police want Mr Ofosu Ampofo to answer questions relating to comments by a voice on a leaked audio recording alleged to be his.
The voice on the leaked tape among other things allegedly charged members to attack the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah and the Chairman of the Peace Council, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante.
Having kept the police CID bosses waiting for the better part of Saturday, the police resorted to the court action to enable them to get hold of Mr. Ofosu Ampofo to assist in investigations.
But lawyers of the NDC Chairman have indicated that he will honour the invitation on Monday, March 4, 2019.
Regional Organiser of the NDC, Anthony Nukpenu, on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Monday said their National Chairman will not be alone.
He said NDC members will mass up at the Police Headquarters in solidarity and to ensure Mr Ofosu Ampofo is not detained by the police.
“The police mobilised three moats and fully armed police officers just to arrest our National Chairman over the weekend so we know this invitation has a sinister plan and we are not going to sit down for that to happen” he fumed.
The NDC Regional Organiser bemoaned how Ministers of State are meddling in the work of the police just to intimidate their political opponents.
“The politicians should take their hands off the police administration and allow them to work,” he added.
Anthony Nukpenu said they are going there in peace hence expects the police to be very professional in dealing with them.
“We are going there with our bare fingers to give moral support to our National Chairman. We won’t do anything to jeopardize the security of this country,” he added.
