The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has condemned the content of leaked audio purported to be the voice of the chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement signed by NCCE Deputy Chairman, Samuel Asare Akuamoah, the Commission said the content of the audio has the potency of undermining decades of efforts in building peace in the country.
NDC Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has received intense backlash the past week over leaked audio puported to be his voice, in which he was heard inciting his party supporters against some personalities, including the chairman of the Peace Council.
The NDC has denied the content of the audio, claiming it has been doctored to score political goals.
But ex-president John Mahama apparently justified portions of it over the weekend when he said Mr Ofosu-Ampofo only urged his party supporters to criticise Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante.

Expressing concern about the audio tape and its content, the NCCE has reminded all political parties to uphold the 1992 Constitution at all times.
“In the said tape, the Chairman (Ofosu-Ampofo) is alleged to have made statements at a meeting that have the potential to threaten the security of individuals, the state, our elections and Ghana’s democracy,” the statement said.
The Commission has cautioned “unguarded utterances” and political violence have no place in Ghana.

It has thrown its weight behind the suggestion by the president for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NDC to meet over the disbandment of their militias.
“The Commission, therefore, calls on politicians and political parties to act in good faith in seeking national interest above partisan interest,” the NCCE said.
