AS Roma have confirmed on Thursday that they have relieved manager Eusebio Di Francesco of his duties following their exit from the Champions League.
Di Francesco, 49, was part of the last title-winning Roma team as a player in 2001 and took over the club in the summer of 2017.
In his first season he led Roma to third in the league and to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where en route they completed one of the greatest European comebacks ever when they beat Barcelona 3-0 in Rome, having lost the first leg at the Camp Nou 4-1.
However this season the club have really struggled for form and they are currently fifth in Serie A and on Wednesday were knocked out of the Champions League by Porto.
Club president Jim Pallotta said: “On behalf of myself and everyone at AS Roma, I’d like to thank Eusebio for his work and his commitment.
" Since returning to the club, Eusebio has always acted professionally and put the club’s needs ahead of his own. We all wish him well for the future."
