The growth of Africa’s indigenous ICT firm, Rlg over the last decade and its recent aggressive move to expand to different parts of the continent seems to have attracted the admiration of graduates of prestigious universities in Europe who have intensified their quest to work for the ICT assembler. Dozens of them including Ghanaians, Europeans and Africans of different nationalities thronged the Park Plaza Hotel in London last Saturday to attend Ghana Careers Fair 2013 sponsored by Rlg Communications Ltd. Even though two other companies; UT Bank and the State Housing Company used the fair to scout qualified and experienced job seekers, most of the over 300 participants preferred to appear before the Rlg recruitment team. They queued for hours to justify the desire to work for what has almost become a pan-African brand. Some travelled long distances such as Scotland and neighboring European countries to London for the fair. Rlg recently announced commencement of operations in East Africa after huge success in West Africa where it currently has presence in Ghana, Nigeria and the Gambia. The company is also present in South Africa, China and Dubai where it has its global offices. Should its ongoing expansion programme pay off, the company is expected to enter Rwandan and Angolan markets before the end of the year. The fair, the first of its kind, was organized by England & Wales based Network for Diaspora Professionals Ltd and the GUBA Awards scheme and supported by Ghana’s mission in London and was aimed at showcasing emerging competitive Ghanaian brands while matching corporate Ghana with pool of high-caliber skilled entry-mid level professionals overseas as well as creating a platform for investors in search of business opportunities in Africa. “Part of our strategic plan, especially towards expansion is to fish out well-motivated, good attitude and high caliber staff to drive our Africa agenda. Remember, we also plan to create jobs for 1 million African youth in the next four years, and we are excited to walk the talk. I am thrilled by the profile of individuals who approached our desk”, said Samlara Baah, Rlg Human Resources Manager for Africa who led the recruitment team. Chief Executive of Rlg, Roland Agambire who spoke on “Ghana’s technological services industry, future trends and manpower needs” at the fair said the only way to attain a meaningful accelerated growth will be through investment in human factor. He said given the continent’s current industrial and infrastructural deficits, “development ought to be sped”.
