The NDC Chairman in the Upper West region has been shot dead by unidentified assailants.

Richard Bayiviala Polibong, was allegedly shot Wednesday night while returning from the funeral of the mother of a former constituency secretary.

Details of the shooting remain sketchy but according to a Constituency organizer of the NDC, Philip Boye, who was part of the four occupants of the vehicle that came under attack, they were signaled to stop by men who had the demeanor of police officers.

Upon realizing that those who were stopping them were suspected armed robbers it was too late. The late NDC chairman was allegedly hit by a bullet meant for the driver who had sped off upon realizing that the men were not police officers.

Police have begun investigations into the incident. But according to the Upper West Region Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Boateng, preliminary investigation has ruled out politically motivated killing, Joy News’ Rafiq Salam has reported.

The branch of the NDC in the Upper West region has scheduled a press conference for Thursday afternoon to apprise the public of the party’s position on the development.
