The Ga South Municipal Assembly has taken steps to regularise land acquisitions and prevent eviction of unsuspecting residents from their homes by estate developers.
According to Jerry Akwei Thompson, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the municipality, some residents have been illegally occupying lands for years, fearing they will soon be taken over by the rightful owners - as it happened in the Obom-Kojontor case.
Last month, about 500 residents of Obom-Kojonto, a community in the municipality, were evicted by a land developer who claimed to have legal rights to the land.
The Assembly said most of the people occupying lands in the municipality do not have the appropriate documents to prove their ownership, leading to several land litigation in the area.
"It is for this reason that the Assembly has decided to meet all the land owners and community leaders so that at they can regularise [land acquisitions in the area", said Akwei Thompson.
Meanwhile, the 500 evicted Obom-Kojontor are yet to be resettled as they are still homeless.
