The National Chief Imam says anybody who forces his way into leadership position will not succeed while in office.
Shiekh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu said Islam supports the culture of democratic governance as demonstrated through elections, the rule of law and the dispensation of justice without fear or favour.
He said this as part of a message – justice is the only solution to Ghananians - to mark this year's celebrations of Eidul Fitri held at the Independence Square Thursday.
He said, according to Islamic prophetic tradition 'one can be a leader if he is chosen by the people' indicating that Islam objects the "imposition of a leader on a community by desirable means”.
He continued the Holy Prophet warns that “whoever forces his or her way into leadership position will not succeed in his administration” because he will not receive any divine assistance for Allah.
In reference to the election petition hearing which is challenging the declaration of John Mahama as president, the National Chief Imam said calls for peace are incomplete without justice.
“Justice is the only essential tool that can sustain the prevailing peace in our country”, he noted.
He urged Ghanaians to be calm and peaceful as the Supreme Court judges hearing the election petition deliberate to give a ruling.
