Two fishermen have been apprehended by the Marine Police Unit for engaging in illegal fishing practices.
Abraham Mensah, 30, and Kojo Annan, 25, were arrested by the police at the Sekondi beach for using light for fishing contrary to Fishing Regulation L.I 1968 of 2010.
The District Police Commander in charge of Takoradi Railway and Ports Unit, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Osei, confirmed the arrest to the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi on Friday.
He said the Marine Police Unit arrested the fishermen with two generators and cables connected to electrical bulbs with voltage of 1000 watts, when they berthed at the Albert Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour at Sekondi.
ASP Osei said the suspects would be arraigned before a Takoradi Circuit Court for prosecution.
