Highlife legend, and advocate for African culture, Ben Brako has topped Global Music Charts with his new single, “Shame and Scandal” which featured rapper, Asem.
The song has been making waves on the international scenes since its release recently.
Interesting it has been consistent on the charts as it climbed steadily to No.5 and now No. 1 on Global Music Charts compiled by North Manchester FM, hosted by Sam Brown.
According to the ace musician, a “self- appointed” Ambassador of Africa, this new single was recorded six years ago with rapper, Asem.
The song urges people to concentrate on their business, rather than poking into private issues of others, adding that whilst the bee is busy playing in the garden, someone else is attending to the honey.
Ben Brako has also revealed that he has some tracks which featured the likes of Okyeame Kwame, TiC, D-Cryme and he is also recording new ones, with a plan of releasing an album early next year.
The song, Shame and Scandal was produced by sound engineer, Kaywa. The song also comes with a video.
In a related development, the legend is set to thrill music lovers at this year’s Ghana Fest in Chicago on July 27 and 28, alongside Samini and others.
The event which would be held at the Washington Park in the United State of America is powered by, Ghana National Council and its affiliates.
The inspiration was taken from an old Trinidadian song.
Ben Brako who was born in Accra on May 20, 1952, has had a career spanning over 20 years.
Ben regarded as one of the pioneers of modern highlife book an active interest in the music and entertainment world at a very young age and yet he is one of the few musicians who took his education seriously.
The music icon holds a BA in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ghana, and a BA in Media Communication Studies from East London University.
His love for singing took a serious turn when he was invited to be the lead singer in a new music group, The Flames in his secondary school, St. Augustine's College. The group became the first group in Ghana to use a melodica.
They became so successful that they were instantly accepted by the music lovers when they decided to play for money during the holidays. When he got into the University of Ghana he formed another group called Agromba Gudureba to test out his own music.
His debut album Baya in 1987 brought his talents to the attention of the nation and African music lover worldwide. The album went on to win The Leisure Foundation Album of The Year 1987, and Musician of the year 1987, and also received Gold status in 1988.
He was rewarded further for his musical talent by winning the ECRAG Mahogany award for consistency in highlife music in 1989. He has since released several albums and toured cities around the world including London, Nottingham, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Toronto, New York, Washington DC, Connecticut and many countries.
