The Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, has deplored the poor state of most court houses across the country and has called for a public, private partnership to upgrade judicial infrastructure. Speaking at the Annual Conference of the Bar Association, the Chief Justice said the provision of adequate infrastructure is necessary to improve access to justice. She said "a visit to court houses in our regional capitals, not to mention the districts puts the matter of the severe infrastructural deficiency facing the judiciary of Ghana beyond any controversy." The Chief Justice notes Ghana's current population explosion, increasing urbanisation and per capita income must make legal rights awareness and effective justice delivery paramount. He asked government not to forget that justice delivery is a fundamental human right, indicating the need for attention in the sector.
