The annual TopApps Awards (www.topappsaward.com), an applications exhibition and award event which gives app developers in Ghana the opportunity to showcase their innovative apps and games to technology and business community and win awards for their outstanding products is slated for Friday, October 4, 2013.
This year’s TopApps Award and app exhibition comes off at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, under the theme: “Promoting Innovation Made In Ghana”, and there are 14 competitive award categories covering SMS, Mobile and Web Apps, including games.
Ahead of the D-day, there would be a call for nomination of apps for all 14 categories, presentations to a panel of judges, and public voting.
A statement from Awards organizers, PopOut said the deadline for call for nomination is on Tuesday September 24, 2013, adding that only short-listed nominees will be contacted to make presentations to the panel.
“Some of the benefits the finalists will get include profiling in Tech Magazine (Ghana Apps Directory 2013), presentation on the day of the event, exhibition of app, media publicity, cash prizes, certificates and plaques,” it said.
There are special recognition awards for personalities and organizations that have contributed to app development in Ghana.
Last year’s event had over 200 entries, 65 nominations in 9 categories, 5 special recognitions, and over 150 participants.
Dropifi, an intuitive customer-contact analysis application, was the overall Top App of the Year 2012. They won two other awards – Web App 2012 and Top User Experience 2012. Dropifi is now a member of the global 500 Startups. It was named with another TopApps Award winner (AdsBrook) and a nominee (Saya) in the “20 Startups to watch in Africa” by Mashable.com.
Forbes.com also named Dropifi, Leti Games and Saya in their “10 Startups to watch in Ghana”.
Awards organizers, PopOut said “TopApps Awards is here to stay to help develop and showcase innovations made in Ghana. The vision of the Awards is to extend to other Africa countries in the next five years to organize an Africa-wide award event to drive data consumption on the continent.”
Partners for TopApps Award 2013 include Google (Ghana), Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, Nokia, Erke Ghana, TelecomEye, GhanaBusinessNews and Citi97.3fm. TopApps Award is a PopOut initiative.
