The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti region, is still justifying the need for a new chamber in Parliament.
According to K.T Hammond, the argument that Ghana does not need a new chamber is moot.
The criticisms of the public have forced the leadership in Parliament to rescind its decision on the proposed $200 million worth 450-seat chamber.
The Acting Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Kate Addo, who disclosed this, said more feasibility studies are needed for the project to proceed in future.
But, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Monday, K.T. Hammond said MPs are suffocating in the current chamber.
He cited how washrooms in Parliament are always taken over by visitors to the disadvantage of legislators.
The Adansi Asokwa MP bemoaned how the Legislature as an arm of government in a democratic dispensation, lacks resources as compared to the Executive and Judiciary.
“We spend so much on the Executive and Judiciary. We don’t have Parliament I’m telling you,” he fumed.
Mr Hammond stressed that, if Ghana wants to practice democracy, it must be prepared to spend.
“I agree the timing might be wrong but we don’t have a multi-purpose Parliament to accommodate all of us. Building a new chamber is necessary.”
