The police have released the body of the man they shot dead at Asawase to the family for burial as his relatives vow to do everything to ensure that they receive justice.
Police claimed the baby’s father who is now deceased and a resident of Asawase in the Ashanti Region was one of a four-member armed robbery gang who robbed some residents of Kumasi yesterday. The 21 year old physically challenged man was identified only as Rashid.
He left behind a three week old baby. His wife had also died while delivering the baby.
Iddrisu Rashid was gunned down on Tuesday at about 16:30 hours by the police, who claimed that he was part of a robbery gang that had raided the Success City Academy at Asem, near the Kumasi Polytechnic, and had attempted to escape arrest.
Residents of the Asawase community, however, discounted the assertion and insisted the deceased was innocent.
“The man even limps in his right leg”, they said, and questioned how he could have dared to flee.
His two other colleagues, Alhassan and Razak, who were with him at the time and were detained by the police have, however, been released.
Mr Adams Alhassan, the deceased’s family head, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deceased has already been buried in keeping with the Islamic tradition.
