The new board chair of Ghana Investments Promotion Centre (GIPC), Dr. Micheal Agyekum-Addo, says he strongly support moves to encourage multinationals in Ghana to cede part of their businesses to Ghanaians.
Discussions are currently on-going to enact laws that would compel some foreign firms operating in the country to give a fraction of their firm to Ghanaians.
Opponents of this proposal say it might discourage investors from investing in the country, while those who are currently in Ghana might be forced to relocate .
But Dr. Agyekum-Addo disagrees.
He said the move is necessary to encourage and promote Ghanaian businessmen.
He noted however that Ghanaian businessmen are currently not prepared for such a move.
Dr. Micheal Agyekum-Addo.also promised to ensure a thorough implementation of existing laws that protect and promote Ghanaian businessmen.
