The Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) in Ashanti Region has launched a programme to train all food vendors on personal and environmental hygiene in their operations.
The programme is designed to educate the caterers, including traditional caterers and road side food vendors to observe strict personal and environmental hygiene at their workplaces during the Christmas and the Ghana 2008 tournament scheduled to take place in January 2008.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Tuesday, Mr. Anane Nsiah, Ashanti Regional Manager of GTB, said the programme which would culminate in a two-day workshop for the vendors would enable them to appreciate the importance of cleanliness and hygiene to attract customers.
He said, the Board had taken it upon itself to train the traditional caterers to ensure that they operated under hygienic and comfortable environment to enable them to receive their fair share in the economic opportunities accompanying the hosting of the CAN 2008.
Nana Ama Serwaa, President of Ashanti Regional Traditional Caterers Association said, the training workshop would offer members the opportunity to identify the areas they fell short in terms of hygiene and sanitation to enable them to improve upon them.
