Accra Hearts of Oak striker Gilbert Fiamenyo has apologised to referee Yao Ametepey after publicly insulting the FIFA accredited referee following Hearts of Oak’s defeat to Asantigold SC at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium last Sunday.

The 21-year-old attacker launched a surprising attack on referee Yao Ametepey claiming his bias officiating in their Premier League match against AshantiGold has brought shame on the people of the Volta Region.

Ametepey was in charge when the Phobians lost to the 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League match but the striker says the referee caused their downfall.

“I spoke to a radio presenter about my displeasure of the level of officiating by the referee without knowing I was being recorded,” Fiamenyo said on Asempa FM Sports night programme on Tuesday.

“I did not mean to insult the referee that his performance is a disgrace to Ewes but I am very sorry for using those words on him and I believe this will never happen again.”

Meanwhile, referee Ametepey is calling on   the Gihana FA’s Ethics Committee to take action against the Hearts of Oak striker for his tribal comments.

The bulky striker has a goal to his credit in the nine weeks old Ghana League
