The Board Members of Asante Kotoko are planning to settle the unpaid wages of players of the club with the supersports sponsorship money.
SuperSport signed a reported $2.1 million sponsorship three-year deal with the GFA last month to produce and broadcast the national league and also the MTN FA Cup.
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi confirmed that the first payment of the sponsorship deal has been given to the Premier League clubs.
“The first payment has reached the clubs, the second will come in January and the last payment will be made at the end of the League Season. I wish I could disclose the amount involved in the deal but because of company policy I cannot,” Nyantakyi said on Asempa Sports Night on Wednesday.
Players of Asante Kotoko are owed wages running since the 2013/14 league season started which has led to a growing discomfort among the players.
The defending champions were in fine form since the start of the season but recent events over the salaries seems to have reduced the confidence of the players which has resulted in their abysmal displays despite being on top of the table.
The Porcupine Warriors lost to Heart of Lions on Sunday, just seven days after suffering the shock defeat to newly-promoted Bechem United.
Kotoko will host Liberty Professionals at the Baba Yara Satdium on Saturday.
