Lothar Matthaus believes that Germany midfielder Sami Khedira will miss next summer's World Cup.
The Real Madrid ace tore knee ligaments in Friday's friendly against Italy in Milan and is expected to be out of action for at least six months.
“I think that’s it for the World Cup for Sami Khedira," Matthaus told Sky Germany. "I know from my own injuries that he will not make it to the summer at a top level.”
Khedira was stretchered from the pitch after 67 minutes of the friendly with Italy following a nasty collision with Andrea Pirlo.
Scans later revealed that the Real Madrid midfielder had torn his anterior cruciate ligament and suffered medial collateral ligament damage in his right knee.
