President of the Whitaker Group, Rosa Whitaker Duncan Williams, is urging Ghana to capitalise on the Year of Return to boost its economy.
According to her, the coming of African Americans into the country is a potential avenue for investments.
Mrs. Duncan Williams made the comment at the sidelines of a dinner organised for some African-Americans as part of activities to mark the Year of Return by the National Association of Advanced Coloured People in Accra.
She noted that, a network of their African-Americans amounts to 1.3 trillion dollars thus Ghana must take advantage to boost its economy.
“If the African-American community was a country, it will be the 46th largest economy in the world and you are talking about a group of people who have the spending power of $1.3 trillion so if we can construct that bridge and have them connect here in terms of business, it will be mutually beneficial partnerships,” she stated.
Mrs. Rosa Duncan Williams commended the government for the Year of Return which she stressed has helped draw the world’s attention to Ghana as the home for Africans in the Diaspora.
