The deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Joseph Yammin, has branded the Ghanaian sports media as the "Great Olympics" in the wake of the package Ghana Government plans to award to the Black Stars for qualifying to the World Cup in Brazil.
According to the Minister, the Ghanaian media are "very unpredictable" in their reportage about sports in Ghana, and described the media as "Wonderful as Great Olympics".
Coach James Kwesi Appiah and the Black Stars of Ghana did the country proud by thrashing Egypt to qualify for the World Cup over two legged games.
Concerns were raised about the amount of money promised each player should the team beat Egypt and qualify for an historic third straight appearance at the world cup to be staged in Brazil next year June.
Mr. Yamin was asked to comment on the package the Sports Ministry are planning to confer on the Ghana team ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
"I fear to announce the package for the Black Stars. Ghana media is very wonderful and cannot be predicted nowadays," Yammin said Thursday, on Asempa FM Ultimate Sports.
"The media now operate like Accra Great Olympics. At the time you expect them to win, they will disappoint you. When you think they will lose, that is the time you will see them winning."
"That is how you the media are working. The media wanted us to give more money to the Black Stars after beating Zambia."
"When GNPC added an additional five thousand dollars to the already ten thousand dollars winning bonus to the Black Stars, the media backlashed the GFA, Sports Ministry and the Government."
"Now the media is seeking to know the package for the Ghana players ahead of the World Cup," He continued.
"I expect the media to educate Ghanaians about the honour and glory the players have brought to Ghana, and they deserve the money for their reward."
Ghana awaits the draw for the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be held in Costa do Sauipe on the Atlantic coast of Bahia state on December 6.
