 Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North constituency in the Ashanti Region,Kwadwo Baah Agyemang who doubles as a member of  the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, has called on the Government and the  Ghana FA to fulfill their promise to the 1963 Ghana squad that won the African Cup of Nations for the first time.

The Black Stars won the  first trophy as Ghana hosted the competition in 1963 and won.Two goals from  striker Edward Acquah and a goal by captain Aggrey-Fynn secured a 3-0 triumph for Ghana in the Finals of the 1963 African Cup of Nations at  Accra Sports Stadium.

1st December 2013, marked the 50th anniversary of that feat  and went ahead again to successfully defend it in Tunisia in 1965.

Hon. Baah-Agyemang, who revealed his intentions of advocating for the repayment, says it would be honourable for the government of Ghana and the Ghana FA to reward the members of the team in accordance with its own promises.

“I never knew that 1st December was the 50th anniversary of our first triumph in the African Cup championship,” Kwadwo-Baah said on Asempa FM Ultimate Sports.

“I am shocked that the FA didn’t put in their calendar to honour our past heroes. We need to honour and encourage those who helped project Ghana football”

“I will start this crusade as a Ghanaian, Journalist, an MP and member of Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports to make sure that the GFA and government fulfill the promise.”
