Tertiary institutions are still reeling from lack of accommodation space on campus for fresh students as the 2019/2020 academic year begins.
The reopening of the university academic year has once again unearthed the lack of adequate accommodation facilities that have virtually become the bane of Ghana’s tertiary education system.
Some of the students who are unable to get campus-sited halls have had to look for accommodation in neighbouring towns and suburbs near where most traditional universities are sited.
Some private hostel owners charge between GH¢2,000 and GH¢4,000 per semester per student in a shared room of up to four (4) students.
JoyBusiness has been taking a look at the situation and how some students and hostel owners are adopting new strategies to cash in on the accommodation crisis that has hit the University of Ghana.
