The Tema Office of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), partnered the St. John Hospital to screen its officers of various conditions.
The two-day exercise which saw over 900 officers participating, was facilitated by the New Patriotic Party [NPP] Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie.
The beneficiary officers were screened for blood sugar, ECG, blood pressure, eye tests, among other diseases. Some of the beneficiaries were referred to St John’s Hospital in Accra for further treatment.

Mr Samuel Ampoh of St John’s Hospital indicated that, the health screening was aimed at ensuring that fire officers remain healthy.
“We are doing it for free, it is for all the fire officers. It’s a free screening we are doing for them. As I said it’s part of our cooperate social responsibility so all the cost is on St John’s Hospital and Fertility Centre,” stated.

He added: “Hon Ayew Afriyie is the board chairman of the hospital so he oversees all the activities of the hospital. He’s not doing it as a Member of Parliament. He is part of us as a team member of St John’s Hospital and Fertility Centre.
“Tomorrow we will come back and then complete it. Next week too we would be in the Tantra Community for another health screening. That one will be for the general public,” he added.
