Disaster management officials in Bawku in the Upper East Region say an estimated 521 people, consisting of 198 females and 323 males, have been compelled to move out of their homes as a result of the conflict that took place in the municipality.
After their houses been burnt and for safety reasons, most of the displaced victims have relocated and are putting up at the Bawku Police station, while some have run to seek refuge in nearby towns such as Pusiga, Zebilla, Binduri and Tempane.
A few have also travelled across to the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga, after managing to escape from the attacks that swept through Bawku.
The Bawku Municipal Information Officer of the Information services Department, Mr James Doegbetor, said that though calm has been restored after the voilent clashes that occured in the area, there was an urgent need for the seurity officials and agencies fo sharpen their surveillance, since the two groups that brought about the conflict, were planning more attacks on each other.
He therefore called on them to beef up security in the Bawku region to help ensure and sustain lasting peace.
Meanwhile, life is returning gradually to normal for most of the inhabitants of the Bawku municipality.
