Former first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Freddie Blay has picked up nomination forms to contest the first vice-chairmanship position of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, he is motivated to join the race to help the NPP wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general elections.
As the NPP prepares for its upcoming national delegates congress on March 1, 2014, nominations have been opened for aspirants interested to contest various positions at the national level.
Positions to be contested for include National Chairperson, 1st National Vice-Chairperson, 2nd National Vice-Chairperson and 3rd National Vice-Chairperson.
Others are General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organizer, National Women’s Organizer and National Youth Organizer.
The positions to be fiercely contested are the National Chairman and General Secretary, where both incumbents, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie are seeking re-election.
In an interview with Citi News after picking his forms Tuesday, Freddie Blay said he is a team player, who will assist the National Chairman to build an effective party, when elected as vice-chairman.
“When you are part of a team, don’t be destructive, you bring friendship, encouragement and inspire those behind you to work voluntarily,” he noted.
The former legislator further indicated that the NPP as a government in waiting must build a formidable party on “a strong vehicle based on which we can have a good and disciplined government”.
Freddie Blay therefore urged other aspirants to embark on a healthy campaign to ensure they don’t give their political opponents ‘missiles’ to use against them.
