Media watchdog, MFWA has criticised as inappropriate, the General Legal Council’s summon of ABC TV over an interview it conducted on the controversial law school entrance exams.
Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) Sulemana Braimah told Joy News if the Council is offended by a publication by a media house, it can seek redress with the media regulator, the National Media Commission (NMC).
The GLC which supervises legal education in Ghana ordered ABC TV manager to appear before it at 1pm Tuesday.
Gordon Asare Bediako is to come with a full recording of all a recent interview with a campaigner for legal education reforms Mr Kwaku Ansa Asare.
Mr Ansa Asare who is the Rector of Mountcrest University College (MUC) and a former Director of Legal Education of the Ghana Law School has been critical of the GLC which is composed largely of Supreme Court judges.

“Really surprised” by the GLC’s action, the MFWA Executive Director argued that summoning of the ABC TV manager to produce its interview is needless because a ‘simple’ letter asking for it will suffice.
“I really can’t understand why something like this is happening at this time,” Mr Braimah told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Daniel Dadzie.
The summons he said sets a “wrong” and “worrying” precedent and could amount to media intimidation.
He referred to two journalists of online news portal Modern Ghana who were bundled into a vehicle by national security operatives and interrogated at an undisclosed location where one was allegedly tortured.
