A night patrol team from the Sakumono District Police Command has stormed a house and seized various items suspected to have been stolen during armed robbery operations along Spintex Road, Lashibi, Ashaiman and other areas.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the Sakumono police patrol was passing through Lashibi when it sighted two young men riding a Yamaha motor bike without a registration number plate and signalled them to stop, but they defied the stop order and sped off.
The police pursued them and their bike eventually crashed into an object and fell. The sound of the crash attracted the attention of residents of Lashibi who joined the police to give the young men a hot chase on foot, Chief Inspector Nketia Yeboah, Public Affairs Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command told the Daily Graphic.
One of the two young men, Bernard Kwame Annor, 20, was arrested, but his accomplice, Paa Kwesi, also in his 20s, escaped. Annor, who had a locally manufactured pistol in his possession, hit and injured one of his captors with the weapon, Chief Inspector Yeboah said.
He said Annor later led the Sakumono District police patrol team and personnel to the Tema Regional Buffalo Unit to a house at "America", a suburb of Ashaiman-Zenu where another unregistered Yamaha motor bike belonging to the suspects, two "Blue King Max" electricity generators, five different types of Nokia mobile phones, four different types of Motorola mobile phones, one ZTE mobile phone and one Sagem mobile phone were seized.
Other items seized from the suspects included one Olympus digital camera, One "Casio" calculator, seven mobile phone chargers, one "Polso" wrist watch of gold colour, a helmet and one locally manufactured pistol.
The police have requested residents of Sakumono, Lashibi and surrounding areas who have fallen victim to thefts and robberies to report at the Sakumono District Police Station to inspect, identify and collect any of the recovered items which may belong to them.
The police have also appealed to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Paa Kwesi, a resident of "America" at Ashaiman, to contact the police on telephone numbers: 022 401193 or 022 202936.
The police have, in the meantime, pledged to break up a motor cycle gang terrorising residents of Lashibi, Baatsona, Spintex Road and Sakumono and their surrounding areas.
In a recent brazen morning attack, two young men riding a Yamaha motor bike, snatched a bag from a young lady worshipper and sped off, as the congregation of the Corpus Catholic Church at Sakumono was pouring out of the church auditorium after the first Sunday Mass. The bag contained cash, travel documents, jewellery and a mobile phone.
