A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded into custody, a 27-year-old man, who without lawful authority was in possession of 23 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
Elvis Baafi, the accused, a footballer, based in Asante Mampong, pleaded not guilty to the charge and would reappear before the Court presided over Patricia Amponsah, on December 19, 2019.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Felix Akowuah told the Court that, the complainants are police personnel stationed at the Drug Law Enforcement Unit in Kumasi, whiles the accused is a resident and native of Asante Mampong.
He said on July 3, 2019, at about 0830 hours, the complainant embarked on an operation at Mampong and its environs to flush out illicit narcotic drug peddlers and users.
The Prosecution said intelligence led the team to Anweam, a suburb of Mampong and the accused found to have the stuff in his possession, was arrested.
He said narcotic drugs suspected to be cannabis, concealed in a multi-coloured polythene bag, was seized from the accused.
Prosecution said, the accused was then arrested together with the exhibits and was sent to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, Kumasi for further Investigations.
Mr Akowuah said a forensic test conducted on a sample of the exhibits in the presence of the accused, proved positive for Cannabis.
He said the accused however denied the offence in his cautioned statement during police investigations but was later charged and arraigned.
