The two most vibrant cities in Ghana, Accra and Kumasi are set to have a feel of the colourful and carnival atmosphere that is synonymous with Brazil as a prelude of the 2014 World Cup.
Madam Irene Vida Gala, the Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana told Graphic Showbiz last week that a programme has been designed by her outfit to bring the mundial celebration closer home to Ghanaians.
“Of course, it’s not everyone who will have the chance to travel to Brazil for the World Cup and the planned celebration. We don’t want anyone to miss out either and have thus come up with a plan intended to bring the feeling of the Brazil celebration closer to fans in Ghana", she said.
The samba rhythms and dances, colourful costumes as well as appetising foods of the South American country, famed for its vibrant and buoyant celebrations will be on display as the World Cup host tries to bring the fever across the world in the build up to the three-week competition.
Between April and May when the World Cup fever is expected to build up around the world, the Brazil Embassy in Ghana will make even more special for Ghana to celebrate Ghana’s qualification and participation in the competition.
Dubbed the Sounds, Rhythms and Flavours of Brazil, the event is expected to showcase several performances reflecting the culture of Brazil.
A group of Samba performers of the popular carnival will be brought in from Brazil to perform in Accra and Kumasi to whip up the enthusiasm among football fans.
Apart from the popular samba dance, there will be performances from the three main cities where the Stars will be playing their group matches.
“ Accra has been chosen because it’s the heart of the country, despite it being cosmopolitan, people in the city love the varied sounds, dances, rhythms and flavour", the ambassador explained.
“Kumasi will also be lucky to host the celebration because it is the hub of rich culture and tradition as well as provided massive support for the Stars during their qualifying campign. Hosting such an important event there only goes to stress how dearly the city cherishes football,” she added.
