Policy Analyst, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby is claiming that the list of presidential staffers submitted to Parliament by President John Dramani Mahama is incomplete.
According to him, there are about 50 other people engaged at the presidency and are paid by the state but who were not captured on the list.
The presidency submitted to Parliament, a list of 678 persons engaged at the Office of the President in 2013. The list which has generated controversy, included public and civil service staff assigned to the presidency as well as appointees by president John Mahama.
"I personally know at least 50 people whose salaries are being paid out of the public purse who are not on the list," the Chief Policy Analyst at the Ghana Institute of Public Policy Options said on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Monday.
He said there are some political appointees in the Atta Mills' regime who were carried over onto the John Mahama administration but have been noticeably left out of the list. He however did not mention any names.
"If what we are trying to do is to reduce the size of our wage bill, then simply hiding people that we know occupy government bungalows; use government vehicles; have fuels and all of that...is a complete waste of our time," he stated.
Even though Dr. Wereko-Brobbey believes the controversy over the numbers is irrelevant, he is of the view that the presidency should be truthful with the figure that has been put in the public domain.
He said sending an incomplete list to the presidency " I think, is the insult that I wish the presidency will not heap on the people."
He said the presidency should take measures to drastically reduce the rising wage bill - a major challenge facing government and "do an audit of the job of everybody starting with the presidents' office".
