Parents of the Achimota Preparatory School have vowed to resist what they describe as a planned takeover of the school by the Ghana Education Service.
The parents say the GES is working out a modality with which it intends to convert the school into a government school.
“We would not allow it,” one parent said. “They won’t succeed, I am ready to die for this school,” another charged.
Speaking to JoyNews on the sidelines of a press conference by the parents, another guardian said she withdrew her wards from the government schools around because the teachers just sell candy in class.
She said they won’t allow a government takeover which would eminently lead to overpopulated classes.
Addressing the press conference, Chairman of the Parents Teacher Association, Henry Twum called on the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and old students to intervene and avert imminent clashes on Monday, January 27, which is the date for the purported 'takeover' of the school which is not a public institution.
