The Chief Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Fats Nartey has advised Assembly members in the Dangme West District to take time off to study the national budget.
This will enable them to make laudable contributions and ask intelligent questions during assembly meetings.
Mr. Nartey gave the advice at a three-day orientation forum organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Environment and Rural Development for 52 assembly members in the district.
He noted that Assembly members can function effectively only if they acquire basic information.
Mr. Nartey urged the District Assembly to open a library where members can go to upgrade their knowledge.
He cautioned members against corruption, favouritism and tribalism which he said retard development.
The Dangme West District Chief Executive, Michael Adjorwerh Nortey expressed concern about the assembly's inability to elect a Presiding Member after three sittings and seven rounds of voting.
The MP for Shai-Osudoku, David Assumeng advised members to utilise the knowledge acquired to develop their various areas.
