President John Mahama is expected to perform a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of 50 new community day senior high schools (SHSs) in fulfillment of his campaign promise.
The 50 schools, form part of a total of 200 SHSs set to be constructed in communities across the country.
The ceremony will take place at Nyanoa in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region.
This will be the first ever senior high school to be constructed for the people of Nyanoa and 50 other communities across the country.
Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the project is in line with government’s objective to expand and improve access to secondary education in the country.
Speaking to Joy News ahead of the ceremony, he said contractors are expected to complete the project within eighteen months.
"This fits into the comprehensive secondary school strategy of His Excellency the President aimed at improving the quality, access and affordability", said the Deputy Education Minister..
The President last Tuesday underscored the need for affordability of education, quality and accessibility in his State of the Nation Address and chose Upper East Akyem in thei Eastern Region, for the start of the project.
