It is unclear whether demonstration by Coalition of Farmers Rights and Advocacy against GMO would come off on the 6 March.
A meeting between the police and the Coalition ended in a deadlock yesterday. The Coalition intended to demonstrate through the principal streets of Accra on Independence Day in protest of the Plant Breeders Bill which is before parliament.
But the police are reluctant to give them the go ahead. However, Deputy Communications Director of Convention People's Party (CPP) and a member of the Coalition, Ernesto Yeboah says they have been directed to write a letter stating the number of protesters.
"There was no conclusion", Ernesto Yeboah told Joy News, Tuesday.
According to him, organizers of the protest march will abide by the concerns of the police and state within 48 hours, the number of demonstrators anticipated, the route, date and time of the demonstration as requested
"They have every right to know [what they are demanding] but they do not have the right to disrupt the demonstration," he stressed.
The Ghana Police Service has asked the Coalition to postpone its intended demonstration on Independence Day, March 6, 2014, against the plant breeders bill.
According to the police, it has already assigned officers to participate in the Independence Day celebrations and thus will not have enough men to offer protection to the demonstrators.
