Commuters who patronise the services of train shuttle may have a new lease of hope as efforts are underway to get striking workers back to work.
The Minister of Ports Harbours and Railways, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi said he would be announcing a package that will pay the salary arrears of the striking workers at a meeting scheduled on Wednesday, February 27, 2008.
Railway workers in the country have been on strike for the past ten days to back demands for their unpaid salaries as well as improved service conditions
The strike has crippled the newly introduced shuttle between Accra and Tema creating some inconvenience for commuters.
Business has also been greatly affected as bauxite and manganese in the Western Region could not be carted to the Takoradi Harbour.
Prof. Akumfi told Joy News that he would be impressing on the workers to work hard to sustain the shuttle service since it was not subvented by the government.
