The minority leader is suspecting financial malfeasance in a loan agreement approved by Parliament for the refurbishment and installation of equipment for the Ridge hospital.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, who was out of the country when the loan agreement was approved, told Parliament the state did not have value for money and therefore the agreement must be relooked at.
According to him, he will file a motion of rescission before parliament to enable the law-making body nullify the agreement.
"It is worrying that the construction of the ridge hospital is going to turn out to be most expensive health facility in the world over. This, I am sure because the cost per a square meter is 6,757 dollars. That is unknown anywhere in the world.
"This facility will have to come back for a motion of rescission for parliament to delve into it. We will not condone any acts of malfeasance. It cannot be accommodated", the minority leader fumed.
The house last month approved a total amount of 306 million dollars. The project, which has already begun, is expected to be completed in 2016.
The construction is being financed with a Government of Ghana mixed credit facility from Exim Bank and the HSBC Bank.
The Ridge hospital is one of a 600 bed-facility intended to be constructed as regional hospitals.
Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu further pointed out that he was not impressed after perusing the documentation on the project as the state can be saved from losing $85 million if things were put right for the nation to have value for money.
Speaking to Joy News, the vice chairman of the health committee, Wisdom Gidisu noted that the loan agreement went through all the required committee and parliamentary scrutiny before approval was granted for work to begin.
Nonetheless, he was not against the minority leader seeking to nullify the agreement because it is within his right as a member of the law-making body.
