The 2012 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, has played down assertions that he is old and unfit to lead the party up to the 2016 general elections.
He told a visiting Central Region executives of the party that he is not clutching onto walking sticks as people may have speculated.
In yet another subtle indication of his intention to contest the party's flagbearership slot, Akufo-Addo said "We’ll keep in touch and, hopefully, if everything goes right for me in the contest for the leadership, we’ll be in a position to work together very closely to advance our common interest.”
The 2012 NPP leader is yet to formally announce his return to mainstream politics having announced his temporary retirement after a failed attempt to overturn the results of the 2012 general elections it contested at the Supreme Court.
He has given March 20, 2014 as the date to formally announce his political future, even though he and his aides have given clear signals he will be running for the NPP flagbearership race.
Nana Akufo-Addo urged the Cape Coast executives to be united in order to, according to him, heed to the call by Ghanaians for the NPP to return to power.
He reminded them that the Central Region is a swing region and requires more efforts from them to win the region in the next election.
The Central Regional Party executives also appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo to, as a matter of urgency, make his political future known.
The executives were there to share their concerns about the region with him.
The Western Region executives of the party were also present at the residence of Akufo-Addo to share pleasantries with him.
