A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dan Abodakpi says he supports a change in the leadership of the Party to place the NDC on a stronger footing ahead of the 2016 elections.
Mr. Abodakpi, who was a former ambassador to Malaysia says he is giving a serious thought to calls from some members of the party for him to contest the National Chairmanship position of the party.
In a release issued in Accra, Mr. Abodakpi noted, "since democratic change in political organizations such as ours is the best means for renewal, I appreciate the call of our members for change, and I am giving serious thought to the calls from our members".
As the NDC prepares to hold its national congress in the latter part of the year, certain groups in the party are clamouring for a change in leadership of the party.
One such group 'Friends of Dan Abodakpi', is calling on Mr. Abodapki, who is also a former Trade and Industry minister, to put himself up for the position of National Chairman, when the party opens nominations.
Humbled by the outpouring of support for his candidature, Dan Abodakpi expressed concern about "what appears to be an attempt to denigrate or attack the personality of our current leaders".
"That is not the practice of our NDC, and certainly that is not my style", he warned.
According to him, each of the current executives of the Party has collectively played a part in bringing the NDC to its present enviable position and "we must all recognize and appreciate their contributions for the growth and development of the Party so far".
Mr. Abodapki further indicated that as the party leadership prepares to organize the party ahead of the conduct of internal elections, members should direct their energies towards the success of the exercise.
He therefore admonished party members to behave in the manner that will "see us more united, strengthened and renewed, when we finally hold our national congress in the latter part of the year".
