A motion by the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central Patrick Boamah demanding the removal of the Accra Mayor Alfred Vanderpuije has sent Assembly members seething with anger.
The Mayor has come under a barrage of criticism following the Nii Boi Town hotel disaster which claimed one life.
It is the second building disaster in two years which cumulatively have claimed 15 lives and injuring several others. The first was the Melcom disaster in 2012.
Some Ghanaians have been angered by what they claim to be the total lack of due diligence and supervision by the Mayor and his team of the country's high rise buildings.
The Progressive Peoples Party, the Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Safety, Nana Amihere, a Lecturer at Ashesi University, Dr. Lloyd Amoah have all at one time or another demanded for the resignation or dismissal of the Accra Mayor.
Some MPs including Patrick Boamah were next to demand for the resignation of the Mayor.
Patrick Boamah was reported to have filed a motion demanding the removal of the Mayor.
But the Assembly members in Accra are resisting the attempts to have the mayor removed.
At a press conference in Accra the Assembly members pledged their unflinching support for the Mayor who they claim has done a great job.
The Assembly member for Anumle, Kojo Amenya Seglo who later spoke to Joy News' Michaela Anderson said if there is anybody to resign at all that person must be Patrick Buamah and not Alfred Vanderpuije.
According to him, Patrick Buamah has for the past two to three years refused to attend any of the Assembly meetings contrary to the regulations governing the local assembly administration.
"If i were him i will be quiet," he stressed, adding that Alfred Vanderpuije has on the contrary been able to abolish the shift system in Accra, fought Cholera and continue to do many important things in the capital.
