Kwesi Pratt, managing editor of The Insight newspaper, has called on the government to take pragmatic steps to forestall the current power crisis facing the country.

He said the excuses from government spokesperson on the crisis are becoming too many.

Ghana is currently experiencing a power rationing regime due to the country's inability to meet its power demands.

Speaking on Alhaji and Alhaji on Radio Gold Saturday, Kwesi Pratt said the insufficient power supply is having a negative toll on several sectors of the economy.

"The excuses are just becoming too many," he said, adding, "the insufficient power supply is causing mayhem in the Ghanaian economy. The rising inflation, the fall in the value of the cedi and so on can all be partly attributable to the irregular supply of power."

"It is important that we begin to take steps to correct the situation," the editor stressed.

"Over the last 20 to 30 years, we have spoken about this crisis over and over again. There are too many suggestions which have been ignored and I think it is important that we visit [them] and take the necessary steps to make that at least we minimize these power outages," he advised.  

According to Kwesi Pratt, there are several measures that can be taken to solve the problem citing the Mfantsipim School's use of biogas as a an example.

He said the biogas technology can be emulated across the country's schools to reduce the load on the power consumption.

He noted that the problem with Nigeria's gas supply to the country is most unfortunate and that "if we had done our homework properly, we should not be depending on Nigerian gas at this time."
