Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Vitus Azeem, and Policy Analyst for the People’s National Convention, Atik Mohammed, have called on president John Mahama to explain the circumstances leading to the advertisement for bids for the ICT Module of Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).
Speaking Monday on Oman FM’s National Agenda Morning Show, the Executive Director of the Anti-Corruption civil society group also wondered why the sudden rush to re-launch only the ICT module under GYEEDA even though the issues for which all the modules were suspended, have not been resolved.
These comments follow the advertisement for bids by GYEEDA for a re-launch of the ICT Module in the Daily Graphic of 3rd April, 2014.
Government is yet to complete the restructuring of the Programme and get a proper legal framework to back the programme as was announced when the modules of the programme were suspended.
Atik Mohammed who was obviously outraged by the advert in the Daily Graphic, questioned the motive behind the re-launch of the ICT module by the GYEEDA coordinator, Kobby Acheampong and the Sector Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah when the law meant to give a proper legal backing to the operations of GYEEDA had not even been laid in parliament.
He observed that even though the advert was published on the 3rd of April, the deadline for submission of bids according to the advert was 30th March and said that the discrepancies in the advert clearly exposed the shadiness of the ongoing attempt to resuscitate GYEEDA.
In his opinion, the contract has already been awarded secretly with the advert being just a smokescreen.
He called on the President to investigate the advert and find out who placed the advert and what interest the sector Minister and coordinator have in the ICT Module.
